I have not played the remake, but my issues with the game were predominantly plot-based (and the fact the maps are really dark) rather than anything visual... in fact, I think it's common acceptance that the game was visually stunning and had good music, but the plot... oof. Also the gameplay is busted and anyone who says otherwise doesn't remember when the Mirror Maze didn't have a save spot right beforehand.
